LeaderLab, an activity run by Lead to Change, is a weekly meeting aimed at providing a range of recreational and enrichment activities for children in Key Stages 1 and 2.
The group meets weekly during term time. Sessions are from 6.00pm to 7.30pm on Thursdays. The cost of the session is £3. There is no joining fee. Subs are collected each week.
We offer a range of activities. In the summertime, we make good use of our garden and our mini allotment which is in The Hub grounds. The children have grown tomatoes, radishes, courgettes, lettuces and potatoes. They have also planted flowers in our planters in the garden.
In the winter months, activity takes place inside The Hub. There is no set pattern. We change the activities on a weekly basis but throughout a month we will offer art and craft, team building, cookery and information sessions.
During a visit from the RNLI, the children learned about the lifeboats and lifeguards – their role, their training and their expertise; the flags that they might see on the beach and what they mean; how to stay safe on the beach; and how to assist someone in difficulties while at the same time considering their own safety.
Continuing our theme of water safety we also learned how the canals were built, thanks to a visit from the Canal and River Explorers. Following the talk by the volunteers, the children visited Etruria Locks. Fortunately, it was a lovely summer evening and the children had a great time opening and closing the lock gates.
